Time for another TCLEWSI write-up. TCLEWSI; Because if every aspect of your life is going to be judged by everyone you meet, you might as well take the rare opportunity to see how you rank compared to others according to these judgemental monsters.
If you are expecting Pancakenap then I am afraid you are stuck with me, Squid Pants, today. This is Pancakenap’s entry and he claimed if he was to judge it he would be annihilated in a deadly planet killing burst of gamma rays. This just made me want him to review it all the more but I’m experimenting with not desiring the destruction of this world and all who dwell upon it. So far the new mindset is lame, do not recommend.
Let’s talk ancestral genetics first. This is from seed Pancakenap bred himself. The parents are Race Fuel from Archive and Zeus from Jordan of the Islands. The former is described as an OG Kush subtype while the latter is more interesting to me, it’s a cross of God Bud and Cactus. I am a fan of a well grown God Bud, to me the scent and taste are reminiscent of a Shishkaberry with a strong pine influence and without the edginess. As for Cactus, although I am intrigued I have not had the opportunity to sample it. Both of these breeders are known and respected by me, so we have a good foundation to start from.
Before we talk execution, a quick digression. A little while back I made what was most likely to my memory my last black market purchase at a Karma Cup. The purchase in question was a half quarter of Golden Goat. It had been scent enhanced, which was the style at the time in the black market, but with a heavy perfumy/incense compound, and lots of it! It was overwhelming and quite vile as a result. According to the grading criteria used in this first iteration of the contest, magnitude was seen as a good characteristic in absolute terms when really it depends on context. As far as this contest goes I would have been forced to rank that nastiness quite highly.
This entry had a much milder floral character that works way better when more subtle. Think more like tea and less like someone cramming Nag Champra incense in your mouth and up your nose while screaming at you. I claimed it was likely a Lavender cross in fact. I was forced to rate this entry below where I thought it should stand in scent and taste because again, magnitude was being seen as good in and of itself and not part of the context of the whole. I also liked the colouration and density of these buds. That all said it also had some less than perfect characteristics.
Consulting my notes, the trim was a bit lazy. I had said I would clean up trim jobs on sloppier entries before I realized there was no way I was going to clean up trim jobs so a bit of that can be seen as on me. Otherwise I found it to be overdry and the cure not completed, possible due to the over dryness, leaving a bit of a green taste.
Safe to say I liked it better than what my scoring reports. Let’s see what the numbers say.
For these reviews, I’ll be providing my own comments side by side with pancakenap’s. We’ll show our respective rating for each entry, and how far it was from the contest average decided by all the judges.
Qualitative data for each entry is also shown summarized:
- Combustion Rating – How well it burned on a 5 point scale
- Potency Rating – How strong you thought it was on a 7 point scale
- Longevity Rating – How long the effects lasted on a 7 point scale
- Anxiety Rating – Amount of anxiety felt, 7 being the highest
- Stimulation Rating – Sedative to stimulant on a 7 point scale
Notes on the grow from the grower
Race Fuel x Zeus
The hive mind did not approve. Ranking was tenth of 13 entries. The total score was close to 10% below the group average.
The individuals did not agree, two rank it top 3 and as well two ranked it in their bottom 3. Comments ran the gamut from positive to very very negative. As in one person marked the entry as unsafe to consume. Sure, they went on to consume it anyway so it could have been an error, but I’ve voluntarily eaten Taco Bell as an adult so can’t dismiss this. Otherwise comments were either supportive or critical reflecting the scoring.
Guesses seemed mostly related; Fireberries, Glookies, GG#4, Kush, Lavender (cross) and Lemon Haze. I would call GG#4 a bit of an outlier there as my experience with it has been chocolate dominant scents and flavours. My senses are unique to me and maybe it does fit the profile better to someone else’s senses.
I know what you’re thinking, lots of people picked up on some berry taste, but no guesses of Blue Dream? It’s times like this I wonder how many of the guesses were just trolling overall in this contest. Besides me. I trolled more than a little in guesses and comments.
