Msiku Star Struck
Hey pancakenap here, I'm opening a package of Msiku’s Star Struck purchased from Mendo Market. This is a 7g package, and I believe it was on discount.
Shown on the container are three dominant terpenes: Myrcene, Pinene, and Caryophyllene. The total terpenes amount to 1.83% of the total mass, which is below average based on your tracking of the terpene content shown on the labels of items we purchase.
Lineage
The lineage has a familiar name often seen in a lot of West Coast American offerings and one that was involved at the beginning of Exotic Genetics, so you see it in many of their early offerings - it's StarDawg. The other component to the lineage sounds like something that came out of Canada's early legalization called "Arise", which I'm not really sure about. Anyways this one is by Irie Genetics and here's the link to the cultivar:
Visuals and Feel
First impressions aren't really that good; the bud comes out looking pretty old in color. There is a good amount of shake inside the package, although the cannabis doesn't feel very dry, it will deconstruct with a good pinch. I can see a lot of open surface on the larger buds, and you may expect it to be poor as a result, and it is. There isn't a large amount of density to run the trim scissors against when you're talking about surface structure.
The container is fairly interesting. It has a soft plastic lip on the inside of the lid that connects with the inner lip of the jar. I would say the design has been successful because this cannabis was very dusty, but I can see no dust outside of the inner lid, leading me to believe that the function was successful.
The other neat part of this, but you don't see everywhere, was the circular boost pack on the bottom of the jar. It's small and thin, and still felt like it had some moisture when I removed it, but I couldn't tell you that it was that bothersome to have inside. At first glance, I think this might've done more good than harm.
Scent
The initial olfaction was pretty faint. It was present, but the character was not loud or even very noticeable.
Grinding it releases some creamy pine and herbaceous funk. The character is creamy green, with an upward inflection from the herbal tones. Character is present but not loud. This doesn’t reach out to grab you.
Taste
The taste is earthy, more like clay, very smooth and calm (like Wappa), creamy pine, and some herbaceous notes like eucalyptus are present but not prominent. The profile has a green, warm feel, much like tea with cardamom. Character is smooth and refined but lacks dimension and depth in some areas.
Summary
This looked well-grown and probably would've looked better when it was a bit fresher, but I can still report near-average olfaction without any negative, dusty tastes. However, within the scope of the other products I've purchased from Mendo Market, this offering sticks out like a sore thumb. The price is way too high, and I didn't find anything worth repeating with this offering specifically.
