Carmel KSmorz
Opening up a package of Carmel K Smorz, I found it to be a really interesting buy because it was on sale for under $30.
Being a Carmel product, and considering it was packaged about 110 days ago on July 14, 2023, and I'm opening it in January 2024, it's nearing the borderline where I would call it old. However, I'm still curious to see if it maintains its quality despite its age.
Typically, Carmel products go pretty quickly, sometimes in the $40 range, so it's intriguing that this one is still here. The big question for me is what's wrong with it, or was it the price? I'm curious if it's still of good quality at this age. While I track package length and quality, I recognize that package length isn't the sole determinant of quality; other factors, like storage temperature, are also at play. So, I'm not writing this off just yet. I'm hopeful to find something good out of the package.
Visuals
The weight seems to be good, didn't dry out much I suppose. Upon opening the package, there's a noticeable scent of sour volatiles, almost like it's been decomposing in there for a while. It reminds me of grass clippings. So, my first impressions weren't so good, but I'll give it some time to equilibrate.
However, the size of the buds is good, with four buds in the package. After weighing it, I found that it was reasonable. There's no shake or any small buds, so it appears to be of a similar quality to other Carmel products, but it is older.
Scent
The aroma is dominated by pine notes, accompanied by sandy earthiness with a sweet-tart edge. Its character carries a slight sourness in the aromatic spectrum, but I wouldn't attribute that solely to its age. I believe this is characteristic of the aromatic profile intended for this strain. However, for Carmel, it's disappointing. The scent doesn't project much.
Taste
The taste offers a diluted blend of tropical fruit, with subdued vanilla and lively melon, juxtaposed with hints of sour pine. Upon exhaling, a mixture of floral perfumes with traces of bitter spices emerges. While the initial impression may seem attractive, it quickly becomes mundane and lacks depth. Upon reflection, my assessment feels somewhat unfair, but with continued use, I return to the same conclusion.
